1. Check and restock emergency kits with essential supplies, including water, non-perishable food, flashlights, and batteries

2. Ensure all family member are aware of emergency plans and evacuation routes

3. Check and clean air ducts, and consider using air purifiers to improve indoor air quality during the winter months when homes are sealed off from outside air

4. Monitor indoor humidity levels to prevent mold growth

5. Keep cooking areas clear of combustibles and never leaving cooking unattended

6. Have a fire extinguisher readily available and ensure all family members know how to use it

7. If you have a septic system, have the septic system inspected and pumped if needed to prevent backups and overflows

8. End the year by reviewing homeowners’ insurance policies to ensure adequate coverage Update home inventories with any new acquisitions or valuables received during the holidays.
